The Museum offers guided tours of its historic space, highlighting its architectural features, construction history, and the journey of how it became home to the Museum. Tours include historic photographs and access to extra areas of the building.
Private Group Tours
Bring your students for a day of hands-on discovery at the National Building Museum! With a self-guided visit, classes can explore our exhibitions at their own pace, sparking curiosity, creativity, and plenty of great conversations along the way.
Field trip requests are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to plan ahead and reserve your spot early!
Visible Vault Tours
Join us for a guided experience in Visible Vault: Open Collections Storage, offering a closer look at the wide range of objects added to the Museum’s collection over the decades.
Focusing on 8–10 selected objects, the tour will provide historical and material context for items ranging from architectural models related to the Washington National Cathedral to children’s toys, illustrating how ideas about the built environment evolved in the 19th and 20th centuries.
